IBO Player setup guide

IBO Player is the only application MegaIPTV supports, and it runs on practically every platform in a Canadian living room. This guide walks through each installation, then shows how to attach your MegaIPTV line and tidy the interface.

Why IBO Player

Of all the IPTV applications on the market, IBO Player is the one that can be installed almost anywhere. It is published by a development group operating as IBODEV, and it is available for Android phones, tablets and TV boxes, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Windows 10 and above, macOS, Debian and Ubuntu Linux, and — crucially for Canadian households — the LG and Samsung Smart TV content stores.

That last point is why MegaIPTV standardised on it. Non-Android smart televisions run closed operating systems that most IPTV developers simply refuse to build for. IBO Player did the work, which means an LG or Samsung TV bought at any Canadian retailer can run your subscription without an extra box.

It is also the only player we support. Our activation instructions, our troubleshooting scripts and our support desk are all written against IBO Player, so sticking to it is the fastest route to a working picture.

What it does well — and what it does not

  • Installs almost anywhere. From an Android tablet to a Linux desktop, the developer publishes a platform-specific installer for each system.
  • Excellent on non-Android smart TVs. If you own an LG with webOS or a Samsung with Tizen, this is the smoothest route available.
  • No recording function. The application cannot record a stream. If catch-up matters to you, use the EPG's seven-day rewind on supported channels instead.
  • No multi-screen view. You cannot watch two channels side by side. In practice this is moot on MegaIPTV, since each subscription authorises one device anyway.
  • Remote playlist activation. Rather than typing credentials into the app, you add them on the IBO Player web portal and the platform pushes them to your device. It is a small extra step the first time, and it means you never type a long URL with a TV remote.
  • It carries a small licence fee. The app gives you a five-day evaluation period, after which a one-off licence is required — roughly €5 for a year or €10 for life. That fee goes to the app developer, not to MegaIPTV.

Install on Android phones, tablets and boxes

Android is the simplest platform because you have a browser and a file manager right there.

  1. Download the IBO Player installation file from the developer's official website.
  2. Android will warn you that the file came from outside the Play Store. This is expected for a side-loaded APK — choose Download anyway.
  3. Open the downloaded file from your notification shade or your Downloads folder.
  4. Tap Install and wait for the process to finish.
  5. Open the application. A short introductory screen appears the first time, explaining what to do next — tap OK.
  6. The player loads and is ready. Keep the screen open: you will need the Device ID and Device Key shown here in the playlist step below.

Install on Amazon Fire TV Stick

The Fire TV Stick needs a side-loading helper because IBO Player is not in the Amazon App Store. The Downloader app handles this.

  1. From the Fire TV home screen, move to the magnifier icon, then down into the search field, and press OK.
  2. Type Downloader. Select the first suggestion and install it, then choose Download to confirm.
  3. When Downloader asks for media access, choose Allow.
  4. Open Downloader, move the selection to the URL field beside the yellow Go button and press OK.
  5. Enter the official Downloader code for the IBO Player Android build — 511693 — and press Go.
  6. Wait while the file downloads. Do not press anything until the progress bar completes.
  7. Fire OS will block the install because the file came from outside the Amazon store. Choose Settings, then Install Unknown Apps. If you cannot see that menu, open About and press OK seven times to reveal Developer Options.
  8. Select Downloader and switch it from OFF to ON.
  9. Return to the installer and confirm with Next and Install.
  10. Press OK on the welcome message. IBO Player is ready.

Install on Windows

The Windows build requires Windows 10 or newer and is supplied as a 64-bit installer.

  1. Download the Windows installer from the IBO Player website.
  2. Windows SmartScreen will interrupt the install because the file came from outside the Microsoft Store. Click More info.
  3. Choose Run anyway to proceed.
  4. Click Next through the installer prompts.
  5. Tick the desktop shortcut box if you want an icon, then click Next.
  6. Click Install, then Finish to launch the player.

Install on macOS

For a MacBook or an iMac, download the macOS build rather than the Windows one.

  1. Open the IBO Player website and download the macOS version from the download section.
  2. Open the downloaded file and drag the application icon into your Applications folder.
  3. Wait about ten seconds, then open Launchpad and click the IBO Player icon.
  4. macOS will refuse the first launch because the app did not come from the App Store. This is expected.
  5. Click the Apple menu, choose System Settings, scroll to Privacy & Security, and scroll down to the security notice about IBO Player.
  6. Choose Open Anyway, then confirm. The choice is remembered, so later launches open directly.

Install on LG and Samsung Smart TVs

This is the route most Canadian households take, because it needs no extra hardware. The steps below use an LG with webOS; a Samsung running Tizen is near-identical.

  1. Open the LG Content Store (or the Samsung Apps store on a Samsung set).
  2. Select the magnifier icon in the top-right corner to search.
  3. Type IBO Player.
  4. Choose the correct result. Similarly named variants exist — pick the one titled exactly IBO Player.
  5. Select Install.
  6. Choose Launch to open the application.
  7. A welcome message appears on first run. Leave it open and follow the playlist section below.

Add your MegaIPTV playlist

IBO Player uses remote playlist activation. Instead of typing your MegaIPTV credentials on the television, you enter them once on the IBO Player web portal and the platform delivers them to your device.

Your MegaIPTV activation email contains everything you need: either a single streaming line (an M3U URL) or a host, username and password trio. Use whichever you were sent.

  1. On a phone or computer, open the IBO Player website and click Manage Playlist in the top menu.
  2. The portal asks for your device's MAC Address and Device Key. To find them, open IBO Player on your television, select the person icon on the main dashboard, and read the Device Info panel in the top-left corner.
  3. Type both values into the portal and log in.
  4. If MegaIPTV sent you a streaming line: click Add Playlist, give it a name such as MegaIPTV, paste the playlist URL from your activation email, leave the XMLTV EPG field empty so the guide is taken from the playlist itself, optionally tick Protect this playlist to set a PIN, and click Save.
  5. If MegaIPTV sent you host, username and password: click Add XC Playlist instead and fill in the Host field with the server address, then the username and password exactly as written in your email.
  6. Return to your television and restart IBO Player. The MegaIPTV line-up appears within a few seconds.

Tidy up the Live TV screen

Out of the box, the Live TV screen uses a layout that crowds channel names under the preview window and misaligns the programme guide. One setting fixes it.

  1. From the IBO Player dashboard, select the screen icon next to the Wi-Fi symbol.
  2. You are now in Live Screen Style. The default option is the cramped one — switch it to the alternative style and click Save.
  3. Channel names now have room to breathe, the preview window sits correctly and the EPG aligns.
  4. Categories are hidden in this layout by design. Press the left arrow on your remote (or the back gesture on a touch device) to bring the category column back.

Favourites and search

With 24,180 channels in the line-up, favourites are not optional — they are how you actually use the service.

  1. From the channel list, press and hold OK on any channel you want to keep.
  2. Choose ADD. A confirmation appears at the bottom of the screen and a heart icon shows beside the channel name.
  3. Your favourites list sits at the very top of the category column.
  4. To search, open the Live TV overview and use the search control in the bottom-left corner. The search runs across every category, but it matches on exact terms — type a partial name rather than a guess.

Movies and series

The video-on-demand section is deliberately simple: a poster grid sorted by newest addition, with three controls in the top-right corner.

The palette icon switches between the Modern and Normal themes. The downward arrow sorts by date added, rating or alphabetically. The magnifier searches the catalogue. Press and hold OK on any title to file it in your favourites folder.

MegaIPTV adds new theatrical releases to the VOD catalogue weekly, so the default newest-first sort is usually the most useful view.

Activating the IBO Player licence

IBO Player gives you a five-day evaluation window. After that the developer requires a one-time licence payment. This is separate from your MegaIPTV subscription and is paid directly to IBODEV.

  1. Open the IBO Player website and click Activate Device in the top menu.
  2. Log in with the MAC Address and Device Key from the App Info button at the bottom of the app dashboard. If you logged in earlier, you go straight through.
  3. Choose Activate Device in the left column, then select your payment method.
  4. Accept the developer's terms.
  5. Pick a licence: one year at around €5, or lifetime at around €10. Click Checkout.
  6. Fill in the payment details and confirm. Close and reopen IBO Player so the activation applies.

The settings menu, explained

  • Network — a shortcut to your device's Wi-Fi list.
  • Parental Control — sets a PIN on the application. The first time, enter 0000 as the current password even though you never set one. Forgotten PINs are reset from the IBO Player web portal.
  • Check for Updates — lets the app update itself remotely.
  • Language — sixteen interface languages, including French.
  • Application Info — version number, build code and licence expiry date.
  • Clear Cache — the first thing to try when the EPG misbehaves or artwork loads corrupted.
  • Manage Categories — hides bouquets you never watch from Live TV, Movies and Series. On a library this size, spending five minutes here transforms the experience.
  • Live TV Player / VOD Player — switches the playback engine between the Android player, EXO Player and VLC. If a specific channel stutters, changing engine usually fixes it.
  • Main Screen Background — twelve background graphics to choose from.
  • Content Strategy — load the whole library at launch, or load each section when you open it. On older televisions, on-demand loading is noticeably faster.
  • Auto Boot on Start — opens IBO Player automatically when the device powers on.
  • More Options — seven advanced switches: stream URL redirection checking, disabling the Live TV EPG, following the stream URL extension, forcing M3U format, runtime loading for movies and for series, and UTF-8 decoding for playlists that need it.

Troubleshooting

  • Channels load but the guide is empty. Clear the cache from Settings, then reopen the app. If the EPG is still blank after ten minutes, message our support desk and we will re-push the guide data to your line.
  • One channel stutters while the rest are fine. Change the Live TV playback engine in Settings — moving between EXO Player and VLC resolves the large majority of single-channel issues.
  • Nothing appears after adding the playlist. Restart the application completely. Remote activation can take up to a minute to reach the device. If it is still empty, confirm you entered the MAC Address and Device Key from the correct television.
  • Buffering during live sport. Check your connection speed first — 25 Mbps is the practical floor for reliable 1080p. A wired Ethernet cable to a smart TV outperforms Wi-Fi almost every time.
  • Picture is fine, sound is missing. Some channels carry multiple audio tracks. Open the track selector during playback and pick the alternative track.

IBO Player FAQ

Which devices is IBO Player available for?

IBODEV publishes IBO Player for all Android devices, macOS computers, Windows 10 and above, Debian and Ubuntu Linux, and the content stores of Samsung and LG smart televisions.

Can I record with IBO Player?

No. The application has no recording function of any kind. Use the seven-day EPG catch-up on supported channels instead.

Does IBO Player cost anything?

The app gives you a five-day evaluation period on first install. After that the developer charges a one-off licence fee — around €5 for one year or €10 for a lifetime licence. That payment goes to IBODEV and is separate from your MegaIPTV subscription.

What payment methods does the licence accept?

You can pay the developer by card through their store gateway, or with cryptocurrency through the CoinPayments gateway.

Can I watch two channels at once?

No. IBO Player has no multi-screen mode, and in any case each MegaIPTV subscription authorises a single device at a time.

Once the player is running, the channel line-up shows which bouquets to expect, and the FAQ page covers speed and activation questions. Not subscribed yet? Plans start at CA$10.99 on the pricing page, or order directly at checkout.
